At Windwhirl Border Collies, our commitment to our puppies extends well beyond the day they join their new homes. We are passionate about breeding Border Collies with sound health, stable temperament, and the foundation for a long, fulfilling life.
We take extensive steps to give every puppy the best possible start. This includes carefully selected breeding pairs, comprehensive health and DNA testing, thoughtful genetic planning, and attentive early care. Our puppies are raised in a nurturing environment and are closely monitored throughout their development.
We recognise, however, that a puppy’s long-term health is influenced by many factors beyond our control. Genetics, nutrition, exercise, training, veterinary care, and lifestyle choices all play an important role once a puppy leaves our care. For this reason, our health warranty is designed to be fair, transparent, and supportive, while recognising the shared responsibility between breeder and owner.
While no breeder can guarantee that a puppy will never experience health challenges, we stand firmly behind the dogs we breed. At Windwhirl Border Collies, our promise is one of honesty, responsibility, and ongoing support.
We are committed to doing everything within our control to help each puppy thrive, and we remain available to offer guidance and assistance throughout your dog’s life. Our goal is to support you in providing a healthy, happy, and fulfilling future for your Windwhirl Border Collie.
In the unlikely event that a Windwhirl Border Collie puppy passes away within two (2) years of birth due to a proven congenital or hereditary genetic condition that significantly impacts quality of life, Windwhirl Border Collies will offer a replacement puppy of equal value at no additional cost. A written diagnosis or certification from a licensed veterinarian confirming the genetic cause is required.
If a dog lives beyond two (2) years of age and later passes away due to a verified genetic condition, Windwhirl Border Collies will provide a credit equal to seventy percent (70%) of the original purchase price, to be applied toward a future puppy of equivalent value. Veterinary certification confirming the genetic cause is required.
This coverage is intended to reflect our commitment to responsible breeding while recognising that long-term health outcomes can be influenced by multiple factors beyond a breeder’s control.
Your Border Collie’s long-term health is influenced by the care they receive once they leave our home. To help ensure the best possible start and to support the health warranty, we ask that new owners agree to the following:
Veterinary Examination:
Have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within two (2) business days of arrival, and provide us with a copy of the examination report.
Preventative Care:
Follow your veterinarian’s recommendations for vaccinations, deworming, and routine preventative care. We recommend avoiding vaccinations within the first ten (10) days after your puppy arrives home unless specifically advised by your veterinarian.
Ongoing Health Care:
Continue regular veterinary check-ups and appropriate health maintenance as your puppy grows, particularly through the early developmental period (at least through 16 weeks of age), or as directed by your veterinarian.
These steps are intended to protect your puppy’s health and to ensure any concerns are identified early. We are always available to offer guidance and support during your puppy’s transition into their new home.
To ensure clarity and fairness, this health guarantee does not cover the following:
Physical traits or characteristics, including temperament, adult size, weight, coat colour, markings, or breeding potential.
Conditions influenced by environmental or lifestyle factors, such as obesity or breed-specific concerns (including hip dysplasia) that result from improper care, excessive weight, inappropriate exercise, or management beyond our control.
Elective or routine procedures, including the costs associated with spaying or neutering. This also includes conditions such as cryptorchidism (undescended testes).
Health issues arising from a lack of appropriate veterinary care, including failure to follow recommended vaccination schedules, deworming protocols, or routine health maintenance.
These exclusions are standard within responsible breeding and are intended to reflect the shared responsibility between breeder and owner once a puppy leaves our care.
All Windwhirl Border Collie puppies receive a pre-departure veterinary health examination conducted by a licensed veterinarian before leaving our care. This examination is designed to confirm that each puppy is healthy and fit for travel at the time of departure.
The veterinary check includes an assessment of:
Cardiovascular health
Skin and coat condition
Eyes, mouth, teeth, and gums
Musculoskeletal and respiratory systems
Ears, urogenital, and gastrointestinal systems
A written health report is provided at the time of departure for your records. If any health concern of significance is identified, the puppy will not be released or transported until the issue has been addressed and the puppy is deemed fit to travel by the attending veterinarian. Health documentation will accompany your puppy upon departure.
